We Plant One Tree With Every Order... Here's Why

It's coming up to April 22, Earth Day! Celebrated every year, Earth Day was originally created to raise awareness about environmental issues such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change.

Earth Day is now observed in more than 190 countries and is a day for individuals and businesses to come together and take action to protect the environment. For us, it serves as a reminder of our responsibility as a company to take care of the planet we live on, and to work towards creating a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

Earth Day typically activities can include things like tree planting and beach cleanups. The goal is to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire people to take action to protect the planet. For us, it means we will be doubling-down on our environmental efforts. More below.

Importance of Business Being Climate Conscious

Since it's inception, ST ARGO has strived to consider the impact that running a business has on the environment. We take from the planet by using it's resources such as land, water and power, so we feel it's important to give back where possible. How do we do this? Well most immediately, we have strived to provide consumers with an alternative to animal-hide leather. Leather looks great and holds up well as dog products, but if we can create an animal-friendly, cruelty-free alternative that is cost effective and durable, then why not at least try?

We also consider the impact our manufacturing has on the environment, as well as shipping impacts (both from shipping the products from factory to our warehouse via sea, and from our warehouse to the end consumer - you!). These are not insignificant disruptions to the climate, but they are inevitable in a product-based business.

We have learnt that the number one action we can take as a business, to try to counteract these environmental disruptions, is to plant trees. And since 2021, we have been lucky enough to be in a position to action our goal.

Since 2021, for every order placed on our website, we plant one tree to combat the effects this order has on the climate.

How do we achieve this? Through our partnership with One Tree Planted! One Tree Planted trees planting conservation efforts in Australian outback supported by ST ARGOOne Tree Planted specialises in conservation through business and individual contributions to planting trees. ST ARGO specifically supports bushfire affected areas of rural Australia.

What is One Tree Planted?

One Tree Planted is a non-profit organisation that is focused on global reforestation. Their mission is to plant trees around the world in areas that have been affected by deforestation, wildfires, and other natural disasters. They work with local partners to plant trees in regions such as North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

The organisation encourages individuals and businesses to contribute to their reforestation efforts by donating to plant trees. For every dollar donated, One Tree Planted plants one tree in a designated region. The organisation also provides education and awareness about the importance of trees and forests in mitigating climate change, protecting wildlife habitats, and preserving biodiversity.

For Earth Day Weekend, ST ARGO pledges to double-down our efforts and plant two trees for every order placed on our website.

Did you know: Koalas are now classified as an endangered species? Due predominantly to habitat loss caused by deforestation and the catastrophic bushfires in 2019/2020. ST ARGO is working closely with One Tree Planted to help repopulate their home with native trees in order to see the species recover.

What does planting trees do for the environment?

Trees provide a wide range of benefits for the environment, some of which include:

  1. Air purification: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis, which helps to purify the air we breathe.

  2. Climate regulation: Trees help to regulate the climate by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which helps to mitigate climate change.

  3. Water conservation: Trees help to conserve water by reducing water runoff, increasing soil infiltration and maintaining soil moisture.

  4. Soil conservation: Trees help to prevent soil erosion by anchoring soil with their roots and by reducing the impact of wind and rain on the soil.

  5. Habitat for wildlife: Trees provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, mammals, and insects.

  6. Noise reduction: Trees can help to reduce noise pollution by absorbing sound waves and reducing noise levels.

  7. Health benefits: Trees have been shown to have positive effects on human health, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and reducing the risk of respiratory diseases.

The bottom line is, we damage the environment as a business, in order to provide products. Trees help offset this damage. So we plant!

ST ARGO's History with One Tree Planted

Since we have partnered with One Tree Planted, ST ARGO has planted over 8,000 trees and reduced CO2 emissions by an estimated 240.16 pounds (that's a lot of gas...)

As the tree gets larger after it is planted, the consumption of CO2 gasses by the trees has a compounding effect, it's a terrific model - thanks Mother Nature.

ST ARGO also heavily involved in the One Tree Planted Koala initiative. This began immediately after the infamous bushfires during the summer of 2019 and 2020. Although summer is generally a fire season, these fires were unlike any Australia had previously experienced. Fires ripped through the land and destroyed millions of hectares of native bushland, killing an estimated 1 billion (1,000,000,000) animals.

Thanks to local reforestation efforts, these areas have started to be replenished, providing much needed sanctuary for our beloved native species such as Kangaroos, Wombats, Echidnas and Koalas.
